This season Major League Baseball has decided to roll out a new showcase specifically based around fans getting to see the top prospects that a team has in what they’re calling “Spring Breakout.”
A recent article on their website answers a ton of the FAQs that fans might have but it’s worth the time to make it a little more Cubs-centric for our viewers here at Cubbies Crib.
What is Spring Breakout?
Think of it as the All-Star Futures Game, but instead of being in the middle of the season it’s during Spring Training and instead of combining players from different organizations onto one team, each organization will have its own team.
When do the Cubs play their Spring Breakout game?
The Cubs will play their game on Friday, March 15th at 4:05 PM Central Time against the Chicago White Sox on the MLB app, MLB TV and MLB.com as well as Marquee Sports Network.
When will we know who is on the Cubs roster?
Teams will be announced on March 7th at 10 AM Central on MLB Network.
How will the roster be built?
It sounds like the MLB Pipeline Top 30 Prospect list will be used as a baseline, so expect to see an infield that includes Haydn McGeary, James Triantos, Jefferson Rojas, Matt Shaw, and Moises Ballesteros as well as an outfield with Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kevin Alcantara, and Owen Caissie with Cade Horton likely drawing the start.
The Cubs may have the most balanced and dominant team to play in this showcase.
