Recent MLB power rankings show that it is the Cubs against the world

The Chicago Cubs look like a solid team a little over a month into the 2024 season. They have a 21-14 record which gives them the most wins in the NL Central and they just finished taking two out of three from the Milwaukee Brewers.

So in theory, that should lead to the Cubs being a top team if there were to be a power rankings update for the week, right?

Wrong.

The Cubs are completely snubbed in the latest power rankings from MLB Network.

MLB Network released their top ten for the power rankings and while the Cubs make an appearance at number nine on the list, somehow the Brewers come in at seventh despite having literally just dropped the series against the Cubs and having given up 36 runs to the New York Yankees when they played them a few games earlier.

The problem with power rankings is that they are inherently subjective and this list goes to prove that.

You see teams that are some of the best in the league, like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves, but then you also see teams with super exciting players that aren’t necessarily as good of overall teams, such as the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals.

Are the Cubs winning their games in the prettiest fashion? No. Is there reason to expect some level of regression from the incredible starting pitching they’ve experienced so far this season? Absolutely.

But at the end of the day, looking at the situation objectively, the Brewers are inferior in every way to the Cubs; just ask Craig Counsell.
