As the Kansas City Chiefs were storming the field after winning Super Bowl LVIII, an old tweet from QB Patrick Mahomes emerged on Twitter/X. The post was from October 11, 2016, and it simply read, "I see you Cubs!!".

The post had very little interaction in terms of reposts and likes when it first emerged, as it had been buried for a long time and was posted before being drafted in 2017. Mahomes was playing in his final year at Texas Tech during this time.

There are a few notable things about what this post is referencing. The date of the post was from the night the Cubs were down 5-2 in the ninth in Game 4 of the 2016 NLDS against the Giants and came back to win 6-5 to clinch the series. A postseason game for the ages that propelled the Cubs to a World Series championship, and was signaling the end of the Giants Bruce Bochy-era dynasty.

A playoff comeback against San Francisco, like Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Considering this was posted before Mahomes was a household name in the sports world, it goes to show how much time has already passed since the magical 2016 run for the Cubs. There was certainly hope that the Cubs were going to do what the Chiefs are doing now in terms of winning multiple titles, but we can only look forward now.

It is also worth remembering is Mahomes' father, Pat Mahomes pitched for the Cubs in 2002. Which probably influenced some rooting interest. No real groundbreaking news here, just a fun little nugget.
