There was a moment of concern during the Chicago Cubs comeback victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night as shortstop Dansby Swanson was removed from the game after the fifth inning after seemingly noticing something felt off while taking practice throws to first base before the sixth inning started.

Swanson's apparent injury had fans concerned on what otherwise was a momentous night for the Cubs as the team overcame an early 7-0 deficit to win 14-9. After the game, Cubs manager David Ross explained that Swanson was pulled due to cautionary reasons after experiencing some tightness on his lower left side. Swanson spoke with reporters after the game and explained the exhausting day that he had on Tuesday.

Swanson's wife, Mallory Swanson, tore her patella tendon in her left knee during a exhibition game with the US Women's National Soccer team against Ireland and underwent surgey on Tuesday morning. Swanson was at the hospital with Mallory beginning at 4 am on Tuesday and that may have played a factor in his being removed from the game early.

"“Realistically, I felt like my body was just kind of done,” Swanson said. “I felt like doing anything more probably would have put me in harm’s way. The night was over for me. Pretty simple, probably haven’t eaten or slept or drank enough water over the past few days. I already started getting a lot of fluids in me and taking care of myself.”"

The Cubs appeared to have dodged a bullet as a serious injury to Swanson may have derailed the momentum that the team currently has. After a walk-off victory on Monday and a come frome behind win on Tuesday, the Cubs have now 5 of their last 6 games. Swanson has been in the middle of that success for the Cubs including a 4-for-4 performance on Tuesday night before he was removed from the game.

Is Dansby Swanson in the Chicago Cubs lineup today?

Swanson told reporters on Tuesday night that he would leave the decision with Ross in regard to whether or not he plays on Wednesday in the team's series finale against the Mariners at 1:20 pm. Swanson started all 162 games with the Atlanta Braves last season and admitted that the idea of playing everyday is something that is important to him. The Cubs do have an off day on Thursday before they head to Los Angeles for a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

UPDATE:

The Chicago Cubs lineup has been posted and Dansby Swanson will have the day off as Nico Hoerner is starting at shortstop.
