Former MLB GM proves why he's out of baseball with dumbfound Cubs' argument

A lazy take from a former GM no longer in baseball.

For as impossible as the idea may have seemed at the beginning of the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season and even through the month of April, the Chicago Cubs face no other choice but to sell at the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline at the end of the month.

After the Cubs' 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, the North Siders entered play on Wednesday in last place in the National League Central division, trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by 12 games. Considering the Cubs do not currently hold most of the tie-breakers against the teams ahead of them in the National League Wild Card race, the 5.5 games between where they are and the final Wild Card spot is likely too steep of a climb for this team to make.

The Cubs' 2024 season is over.

That is why it is rather annoying to ready former MLB general manager Jim Bowden's take in The Athletic (Subscription Required) regarding what the Cubs should do at the deadline.

"The Cubs are 5 1/2 games out of the National League’s third wild-card spot and if they stay about that close, I doubt they sell at the trade deadline. In fact, if they have an opportunity to improve the bullpen, upgrade offensively at catcher and add a middle-of-the-order bat, I think they will."
The Athletic

No, Jim, the Cubs will not upgrade their bullpen, add offense at catcher, and a middle-of-the-order bat at the deadline if the opportunity arises. The reason they won't do that is for the reasons that Google isn't able to tell Bowden when he quickly searches what is going on with the Cubs. Instead of wasting 15 minutes on a Google search, all Bowden needs to do is watch 5 minutes of the dead-ass product that Cubs' baseball is in 2024 to realize that there is no scenario where this team buys at the deadline.
