The Cubs lost the first of three against NL Central foe Cincinnati Reds on Monday night, 7-6, but will look to get back on track with one of its promising young arms on the mound.

Chicago will hand the ball to Hayden Wesneski on Tuesday night against the Reds, who will counter with Luis Cessa. The Cubbies offense looks formidable early on with Dansby Swnason acclimating nicely to his new role and Cody Bellinger hitting his first home run in the new uniform.

Can the team now get some adequate pitching from Wesneski to get in the victory column?

Cubs vs. Reds prediction and pick

Wesneski was a September call up for the Cubs and made an instant impact, posting a 2.18 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances that spanned more than 33 innings. He will now look to secure a spot in the starting rotation for years to come in 2023 in his first full season in the bigs.

I like his chances against a Reds team that is a below average hitting group and I think we are buying the Cubs rookie at his cheapest right now.

On the other end, Luis Cessa has a far more proven track record of a middling pitcher. Cessa got crushed last season, bottom 20 in average exit velocity, which is a problem against a Cubs team that is cracking the ball right now with hitters such as Swanson, Bellinger and Eric Hosmer. The right hander had a FIP of 5.02 last season and struck out less than seven batters per nine innings, and will struggle to keep the ball in the park against the Cubs lineup.

Take advantage of getting Wesneski at a discount before he breaks out in 2023.
