Cubs vs. Padres prediction and odds for Monday, June 5 (Look to total)
By Peter Dewey

The Chicago Cubs are six games under .500 in the 2023 season, sitting 5.5 games back of first place in the NL Central.
They’ll face an underachieving San Diego Padres team and lefty Blake Snell (1-6, 4.50 ERA) who has struggled mightily this season. San Diego is just 2-9 in his 11 starts.
Veteran Kyle Hendricks (0-1, 3.86 ERA) gets the ball for the Cubs in what will be his third start of the season. While Hendricks ERA and Fielding Independent Pitching (3.50) are solid this season, I do think he could be in trouble against this San Diego lineup.
Let’s dive into the odds and a best bet for this matchup:

Cubs vs. Padres prediction and pick
I think the OVER is worth a look in this game, as Snell has struggled all season long, posting a 5.07 FIP and walking 34 batters across 56 innings this season.
The Cubs should tee off on Snell, as the team ranks fourth in MLB in OPS against left-handed pitching this season.
However, I don’t trust Hendricks either even with the numbers he’s put up so far this season.
Hendricks has allowed a ton of baserunners as well, posting 1.82 WHIP, giving up 12 hits and five walks in 9.1 innings this season.
This has been a recurring problem for Hendricks, who allowed a league high 200 hits in 2021 and has posted a WHIP of at least 1.29 in the last two seasons.
I expect a high scoring game in San Diego on Monday.
