The Chicago Cubs were one of the hottest teams in the National League, but have no dropped five of their last six games including two straight against the lowly Washington Nationals.

The good news is they get to face who I believe is the worst starting pitcher in Major League Baseball, Patrick Corbin.

Let's dive into the odds for today's matinee series finale.

Cubs vs. Nationals prediction and pick

Patrick Corbin stinks. Let's just be honest about it. He has got progressively worse since 2019, and now sports a 5.47 ERA and a 1.660 WHIP through his first six starts this season.

That makes him one of the easiest pitchers to fade in baseball today, especially when he faces a team like the Cubs that has had great success against lefties this season. Heading into today, the Cubs rank third in OPS against left-handed pitching at .851.

Jameson Taillon will get the start for the Cubs and while his ERA of 4.50 isn't anything to write home about, I think he's going to see improvement in that area sooner rather than later. The reason why I think that is his FIP of 1.93 says that poor defensive play behind him has been a larger cause of his ERA than his actual pitching.

Now het gets to take on a Nationals team that ranks 27th in the Majors in OPS.

Give me the Cubs to win with margin this afternoon.
