I'm not burying the lede here. A Pat Hughes sweater giveaway. That's right. On April 6, during the Cubs' first homestand of the 2024 season, the team is giving away a replica shirt that mirrors Hughes' beloved 30-year-old sweatshirt he continues to wear to this day. If that doesn't get you fired up for baseball, I don't know what will.
OK, so maybe a sweater isn't for everybody - and that's OK, because the Cubs have plenty more in store on their giveaway calendar, which was unveiled via a comical video on social media Thursday morning.
This year's slate features a good number of bobbleheads: Christopher Morel on 6/1, Adbert Alzolay on 6/22, a Ryne Sandberg statue on 6/23, when the Hall of Famer's statue will be unveiled outside the Friendly Confines, Justin Steele on 7/6, Ian Happ on 8/1. Personally, I think the Steele one might be one of the more creative designs we've seen in recent years and its theme aligns perfectly with the Fourth of July holiday.
Cubs offer era-themed tank tops as part of bleacher giveaways in 2024
It looks like hats are out in the bleachers on the Friday giveaways, to be replaced by tank tops that will be designed based on Cubs jerseys from different eras - and they all feature a tag on them that says 'Official Bleacher Bum'. There's a lot to love about this idea.
Those headline the gate giveaways: you also have your typical start-of-season magnet schedule, some blankets and more. You can check out the full assortment of giveaways here.
Outside of the gate giveaways, the Cubs have a ton of theme nights, as well - including some for local colleges and univerities, Healthcare Worker, Teacher and First Responder Appreciation nights, and quite a few other special nights scheduled.
The 2024 Cubs Hall of Fame celebration is set for 9/8. On that day, Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood will be inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame - after learning of the news themselves during Cubs Convention in January. Pride Night returns, as well as Harry Potter Night and HBCU Night, which is slated for 9/21.
