As if the vibes with Opening Day less than a week away weren't good enough, the latest update from Chicago Cubs icon Ryne Sandberg on his battle with prostate cancer will sure do the trick.

In a post on Instagram, Sandberg shared that his latest PET scan showed no cancer anywhere in his body as he continues to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Cubs set to honor Ryne Sandberg this summer with statue unveiling

We're all keeping Ryno in our thoughts as he keeps on fighting. This year could wind up being an especially remarkable one for the Cubs legend. On the anniversary of the Sandberg Game this summer, he'll join the likes of Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams and Fergie Jenkins with a statue outside Wrigley Field. The celebration could take on a whole new meaning if Sandberg has won his battle against cancer by then, too.

“It’s pretty cool because of the statues that are there already, I know all of them," he told Marquee Sports Network during Cubs Convention this January. "Harry Caray and Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Fergie Jenkins — so to join them and be a part of that class and be a part of Wrigley Field for the fans is totally awesome.”

Sandberg, to this day, remains one of the most beloved Cubs players of all time. He was a pillar in the Chicago infield during his 16 years in the bigs, playing all but 13 of his more than 2,100 career regular-season games with the team. As pointed out by Jordan Bastian at, the second base position has been a revolving door since Sandberg retired, with 15 different Opening Day starters there in the last 25 seasons.

A face of the franchise for the better part of two decades, he's got countless fans in his corner during this fight - all you have to do is read the comments on his post to know how loved he is by not only Cubs fans but the baseball world. Keep fighting, Ryno - you got this.
