Chicago Cubs rumors: Trea Turner offers Mad Men themed pitch
The World Series has officially come to an end and the attention has turned to the Chicago Cubs as the team is expected to be an active participant in free agent spending this winter.
For the Cubs, it would appear that the biggest free agent decision that the team will make this offseason is which free agent shortstop to target. At the top of the free agent class for shortstops this offseason are four elite shortstops in Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, and Dansby Swanson.
For the Cubs, it seems as if the decision will come down to either Turner or Correa. For the next 7 to 9 years, the Cubs will need to which one of the two would be the better fit for what the team is looking to accomplish on the field.
Turner is doing his part to answer that question as he enlisted "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm to narrate his free agent profile video.
Turner had the the type of season in 2022 that warrants "Don Drapper" himself selling him to interested teams this offseason.
Free agent shortstop Trea Turner will be on the Chicago Cubs radar and has created a "Mad Men" themed pitch.
In 708 plate appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason, Turner had a slash line of .298/.343/.466/.809 to go along with 21 home runs and 100 RBIs. Where Turner stands out from the other free agent shortstops is with his speed as he totaled 39 doubles last season to go along with 27 stolen bases.
The addition of Turner would address two areas of need within the Cubs lineup as they would have a legitimate leadoff hitter for the first time since Dexter Fowler in 2016 and much-needed power. Defensively, Turner would likely slot into the shortstop position though there is an argument to be made that Nico Hoerner should remain at shortstop. It is worth noting that Turner did play second base for the Dodgers in 2021 after being acquired from the Washington Nationals.
Turner is an easy sell for any team that is need of an offensive upgrade and there is no doubt that the Cubs will have him at the top of their wish list.
