The Chicago Cubs placed the "For Sale" out in front of their roster ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline. The Cubs stumbled out of the gate after the All-Star break, leading Jed Hoyer to firmly label the team as sellers at the deadline on Tuesday.

It would seem that we can rule out trades of players who will be directly tied to the Cubs' contending next season—Justin Steele, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Michael Busch—but even then, recent comments from Carter Hawkins suggest that the Cubs will, at the very least, have a conversation about any player on their roster.

One Cubs' player who has been oft-rumored to be on the move ahead of the deadline is second baseman Nico Hoerner. While it would take an extraordinary offer for the Cubs to move on Hoerner, Jon Morosi of MLB Network did not rule out the idea.

As Morosi points out, the Cubs and Yankees have been frequent trade partners in the past. Last season, at the deadline, the Yankees were believed to be making a strong effort to acquire Cody Bellinger before the Cubs shifted to being buyers. Outside of the speculated interest from the Yankees in Hoerner and Mike Tauchman, we did hear earlier this week that they have an interest in a reunion with Jameson Taillon.

Hoerner would fit the mold of the type of players that the Yankees are in the market for, as they have also been linked to Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins and Jonathan India of the Cincinnati Reds. Again, though, unless the Yankees are as motivated to acquire Hoerner as they were Bellinger last season, there likely is not an offer where the Cubs make the deal.

Tauchman does seem to be a lock to be moved as he is a fourth outfielder and would seem to be a non-tender candidate this offseason given the plethora of outfield prospects the Cubs have either at the Triple-A level or closely approaching it.
