Three trade targets for Happ - 2. LA Dodgers

The silence is deafening for a team that has been highly active in free agency in recent years. Presumably, the Dodgers will be looking to make a huge splash for Shohei Ohtani next winter when he inevitably tests the market and lands the biggest contract in MLB history. From a positional standpoint, the fit is there as well. After losing Cody Bellinger, the Dodgers boast Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor, and Trayce Thompson in the outfield. They, too, could use Happ and his one year of team control as an excellent weapon from both sides of the plate.

The Dodgers, to be frank, have not drastically improved this winter. They recently traded for Miguel Rojas from Miami and added J.D. Martinez to man the DH spot. Trading for Happ will give the Cubs another solid prospect, but it further helps the Dodgers compete again while taking playoff odds away from the Cubs. After losing Trea Turner, Justin Turner, and Edwin Rios, their offense needs another jolt. Happ and his one year of control could quickly fill that void for 2023, while his salary coming off the books next winter re-primes them for Ohtani.
