It was a slow start to the season for Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis with the Iowa Cubs in Triple-A but he has flashed signs of returning to his top prospect form. Overall, Davis' numbers on the season still reflect the slow start as he is currently slashing .228/.318/.351/.669 through 66 plate appearances.

There is reason for hope, however.

Over the course of the last 7 games, Davis appears to be inching closer toward the offensive success that made him a top prospect in the Cubs' farm system prior to the start of the 2022 season. In his last 25 plate appearances, Davis is slashing .375/.400/.542/.900 and has only struck out twice.

Davis is considered to be the third-best prospect in the Cubs' system according to MLB Pipeline and of the team's top five prospects, the outfielder may be the closest to reaching the Major League level.

Davis is now in an interesting position when it comes to his future with the Cubs' organization. Prior to the start of the season, there seemed to be a clear spot for Davis in the team's outfield picture as center fielder Cody Bellinger was signed as a one-year filler in the outfield, and left fielder Ian Happ was entering his final year before reaching free agency.

Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis is facing uncertainty regarding his future with the team.

Since then, Bellinger has flashed signs of being the offensive threat that made him the best hitter in the National League during his MVP season in 2019 and Happ signed a three-year contract extension with the team. Even if the Cubs move forward with their idea of letting Bellinger walk at the end of this season, center field is a position that top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong has already claimed.

Davis does not have a clear spot in the long-term future of the Cubs' outfield. Perhaps, Davis' role will be as a designated hitter/fourth outfielder but it may be more likely that he is a trade chip moving forward.
