Chicago Cubs probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, May 19
The Chicago Cubs barely squeaked out a 1-0 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday and will try to split the series on Sunday.
What has been most impressive about this Cubs' team is that they have managed to keep the floor in place beneath them. Given the injuries that the Cubs have experienced, it is remarkable that they enter play on Sunday with a record of 26-21, only two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central.
Reinforcements appear to be on the way with the expectation that Dansby Swanson will be activated from the IL on Tuesday and pitchers Jordan Wicks and Drew Smyly expected to begin minor-league rehab assignments within the next week.
As we draw closer to the end of May, we may finally get an idea of what the Cubs look like when fully healthy. Sure, the Cubs are still likely going to need to add external solution to their offensive struggles and inconsistencies in the bullpen but for now, the Cubs are focused on seeing what the team looks like when healthy.
Probable starting pitchers
- Jameson Taillon will be on the bump for the Cubs on Sunday after struggling in his last start against the Atlanta Braves. Taillon got tagged for 7 runs in 4 innings pitched. Still, Taillon has been having a strong start to the season with a 1.61 ERA through 5 starts.
- Making the start for the Pirates on Sunday is Mitch Keller. Through 9 starts this season, Keller has an ERA of 3.93.
