The Chicago Cubs' victory over the New York Mets was the case of the Cubs winning a game that they had no business winning.

Despite being no-hit to begin the game, the heroics of Christopher Morel led the Cubs to securing their 18th victory on the season. With 18 victories, the Cubs have set a franchise record with most wins this season that the team has ever had through the month of April.

What's been most impressive about the Cubs' hot start to the season is that they have done this while suffering what should have been crippling injuries. During the first month of the season, the likes of Justin Steele, Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger, Julian Merryweather, and Kyle Hendricks have all went down with an injury.

Depth is often tested throughout the course of a 162-game season but for the Cubs, that test has come before they've even played 30 games.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Javier Assad is making the start for the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. With Justin Steele making a rehab-start on Wednesday with the Iowa Cubs and Kyle Hendricks expected to begin a rehab-assignment within the next week, the Cubs will have a decision to make with Assad. Assad has performed well enough that he deserves to remain in the rotation regardless of how the team plans to use Hendricks the remainder of this season.
  • Veteran left-handed starting pitcher Sean Manaea is on the mound for the Mets. Manaea was rumored to be a potential target of the Cubs this past offseason and has posted a 3.33 ERA through his first five starts this season.
