The Adbert Alzolay problem came to a head for the Chicago Cubs during their 3-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Alzolay was trusted with a high-leverage situation when he entered the game in the 8th inning while the Cubs had a 1-0 lead. It backfired as Alzolay gave up three runs while taking the loss in the game and earning his 5th blown save of the season.

While the Cubs undoubtedly have a problem on their hands with what to do with Alzolay, the team's offense is struggling. It's no surprise that those struggles started around the time that both Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki landed on the IL.

The Cubs have not had a multi-home run game over the course of their past 10 games. The lack of power was always going to be the concern this season for the Cubs' offense and it would seem that liability is what is preventing the team from scoring runs this season.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Jameson Taillon takes the mound for the Cubs on Saturday in a game where the team needs him to be a stopper. Taillon has been excellent this season and the Cubs will need him to continue that success in order to put the team in a position to take two of three from the Brewers on Sunday.
  • Right-handed starting pitcher Tobias Myers will be making the start for the Brewers. In 2 starts this season, Myers has allowed 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 9.
