With the calendar a few days away from flipping to June, the Chicago Cubs seem to be ready to make changes to both the 26-man roster and the starting lineup.

One sign of that belief is the decision that the Cubs made prior to their game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon. Before the game, the Cubs recalled Pete Crow-Armstrong from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infield prospect Luis Vázquez.

It was the reverse of the decision the team made last week when Crow-Armstrong was optioned in favor of Vázquez. The move did not make sense at the time, considering Crow-Armstrong was beginning to find his stride on offense, and Vázquez was in the middle of an offensive slump with the Iowa Cubs.

In the days since, Crow-Armstrong has torched Triple-A pitching, while Vázquez has only seen one plate appearance.

The expectation is that Crow-Armstrong will be a regular in the starting lineup as a shift to first base may be in the works for Cody Bellinger.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Jameson Taillon is on the mound for the Cubs as they try to split this four-game set against the Brewers. Taillon has been excellent this season, posting a 2.58 ERA through 7 starts this season.
  • Colin Rea is making the start for the Brewers. On the season, Rea has posted a 3.98 ERA through 10 appearances this season.
