The Chicago Cubs play a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins on Saturday and this is an important time to give one final round of applause for Jameson Taillon's 2024 season debut. While the expectation was that Taillon would only go four innings, the veteran was able to cruise through a five-inning performance while only allowing one run. Keegan Thompson and Colten Brewer covered the final four innings of the game and that put the team in an ideal spot given the fact that 18 innings of baseball will be played today.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Javier Assad gets the start for the Cubs in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the Marlins at Wrigley Field. Assad continues to thrive in whatever role he is asked to perform in as a member of the Cubs' pitching staff. Used mostly as a bulk reliever, Assad does not get the credit that he deserves when pitching out of the Cubs' starting rotation. This season alone, Assad has allowed only 4 runs in his first 3 starts.
  • Potential Cubs' trade deadline target, Jesus Luzardo, is making the start for the Marlins in Game 1. Luzardo, like most of the Marlins' starting rotation, has struggled to open the 2024 season as he has allowed 17 runs in 20 innings pitched.
