Probable Starting Pitchers

Justin Steele will make his third start of the season for the Chicago Cubs as they play the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night at Dodger Stadium. Steele has picked up right where he left off from the 2022 season as he has been brilliant through his first two starts of the season. Steele has only allowed 1 run in 12 innings pitched this season while striking out 11.

Making the start for the Dodgers on Friday night will be Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard is not nearly the same dominant pitcher that he was during his run with the New York Mets to begin his career and his struggles this season prove that. Syndergaard has allowed 7 runs in 10 innings pitched this season.

Pre-Game Notes

  • Prior to the game, the Cubs activated right fielder Seiya Suzuki from the injured listed and optioned utility infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa. There was some intrigue in regard to what the corresponding roster move would be when the Cubs officially activated Suzuki and there was a belief that Mastrobuoni may have been safe given his ability to play multiple positions.
  • There is an expectation that Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger may be placed on the paternity list in the coming days as his girlfriend is due any day with their second child together.
  • Relief pitcher Jeremiah Estrada is with the team in Los Angeles but was not among the roster moves that were announced on Friday. With the Cubs having a man down in the bullpen since the demotion of Javier Assad earlier in the week, Estrada may be the corresponding move once Bellinger is placed on the paternity list.
