Tuesday's victory over the Chicago White Sox has the opportunity to be the win that gets the Cubs season back on track.
After a brutal stretch of play during the month of May, the Cubs found themselves closer to last place in the National League Central than first place. Even with their victory over the White Sox on Tuesday, the Cubs still trail the Milwaukee Brewers for first place by six games in the National League Central.
There is reason to be optimistic that the Cubs can turn their season around given the plethora of teams that the North Siders play during the month of June that have a record below the .500 mark.
Beyond that, there have been signs of life from a stagnant Cubs' offense. Ian Happ's two-run double in the eighth inning on Tuesday secured the victory for the Cubs and continued a much-needed hot stretch for Happ. Happ returning to form would be a great sign for the Cubs offense. Over the course of the past 14 days, Happ is slashing .333/.400/.769 with 4 home runs and a 1.169 OPS.
Probable starting pitchers
- Jameson Taillon will get the start for the Cubs on Wednesday and the veteran should find success against a mediocre White Sox lineup. Taillon continues to bounce back this season after struggling in 2023 during his first season with the Cubs. Through 8 starts this season, Taillon has a 2.84 ERA.
- Erick Fedde is making the start for the White Sox and Fedde has been one of the lone bright spots on a historically bad roster. On the season, Fedde has a 3.12 ERA through 12 starts.
