The Chicago Cubs took the first step toward addressing their bullpen woes on Tuesday as they acquired Tyson Miller from the Seattle Mariners.

If you're reading this and you are upset that the Cubs gave up Jake Slaughter for a reliever in Miller who was designated for assignment, stop hugging prospects.

Slaughter, with Christopher Morel at third base and Michael Busch at first base, had no value to the Cubs at the Major League level and was expendable in a deal for Miller, who could provide an immediate upgrade over the middle-inning relievers that the Cubs have been rolling out.

It should be no surprise comes on the heels of Adbert Alzolay being placed on the IL. Imaging confirmed that Alzolay has been dealing with a right flexor strain.

It would seem wishful thinking to think the strain is what was causing Alzolay's struggles this season considering it was not believed to be an issue until Sunday. Having said that, the hope is the consequent recovery from this injury will get Alzolay back on track.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Jameson Taillon will be back on the mound for the Cubs on Tuesday after missing his previously scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates this past weekend. Taillon has been dealing with a back injury since Spring Training, but when he's been on the mound, he's been excellent, as he has a 1.13 ERA through 4 starts this season.
  • Chris Sale will be making the start for the Braves. On the season, Sale has a 2.95 ERA through 7 starts this season.
