Chicago Cubs probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, April 15

The Chicago Cubs begin their final series of a 9-game west coast road trip.

One more series remains for the Chicago Cubs on this laborious 9-game West Coast trip that featured only one day off. The Cubs took two of three from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend on a series that ended on Sunday when closer Adbert Alzolay picked off Mariners' star outfielder Julio Rodriguez at first base to end the game and secure the team's 3-2 victory. The Cubs have split the first six games of the nine-game west coast trip that they are currently with the team kicking off the final road series of this trip on Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The news before the game was not great for the Cubs as they placed outfielder Seiya Suzuki on the IL with an oblique strain. Alexander Canario was called up in place of Suzuki, who missed about six weeks last season when he suffered a similar injury during Spring Training.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Ben Brown will be making the second start of his Major League career on Monday when he gets the nod against the defending National League champions. After struggling in his Major League debut against the Texas Rangers, Brown has thrived in his three outings since. Brown's ERA on the season is still inflated due to those struggles against the Rangers as hit sits at 6.10 through 10.1 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts.
  • Merrill Kelly will be making the start for the Diamondbacks against the Cubs on Monday night. Kelly has been an anchor in a Diamondbacks' rotation which was one of the main reasons the team went on a World Series run last season. On the season, Kelly has a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched.
