After an incredible start to his 2023 campaign, Chicago Cubs pitching prospect Ben Brown has earned a promotion to Triple-A Iowa, putting him on cusp of the big leagues. We felt the call-up wasn't far away, and after posting an absurd 0.45 ERA in 20 innings pitched to go along with 30 punchouts, the promotion was well deserved

Currently the #3 pitching prospect in the Cubs organization, Brown has excelled to a new level this season and has a perfect chance of finding himself moving up a spot or two among the Cub's top 30, where he sits at #6, respectively. Just take a look at this nasty swing-and-miss stuff from a recent start with Double-A Tennessee.

Keep an eye on Brown if he is hot out of the gate in Iowa. Just this week, the Cubs called up Caleb Kilian for a spot start, which did not go as planned once again. With Jameson Taillon sidelined and Kyle Hendricks still working his way back and less-than-ideal showings from guys like Javier Assad and Kilian, there could be an opportunity for Brown to come up and provide some more pitching depth for Chicago.

Cubs could find needed reinforcements in Ben Brown sooner rather than later

Of course, we're not the only one that believes highly in Brown's ability. Greg Zumach of Northsidebound.com had this to say yesterday regarding potential future of Brown:

The Cubs look to have Brown on a faster track than most but won't put too much pressure on him. As long as he continues to showcase his skills the way he has, it's a no-brainer that he would be in discussions for another promotion sooner rather than later, given the team's greatest area of need is in the bullpen.

Next. Chicago Cubs chemistry shouldn't come at cost of winning. dark

This is just the beginning when it comes to seeing the front office's recent moves pay off at the big league level. Don't forget - Brown is just another pickup Jed Hoyer made last summer at the trade deadline.
