It is Pete Crow-Armstrong time in Chicago.

As the Chicago Cubs push for their first post-season appearance since 2020, the team will be activating their top prospect on Tuesday.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Monday that Crow-Armstrong is en route to join the team in Colorado and will be activated on Tuesday.

The timing of the Cubs promoting Crow-Armstrong to the Major League level is perfect as the team will spend their next six games on the road against the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks. Given the outfield dimensions in both Colorado and Arizona, Crow-Armstrong's defense could be on display from the start.

The long belief has been that Crow-Armstrong is already capable of being a Gold Glove-caliber center fielder at the Major League level and scouts confirmed that belief by placing a grade of 80 on his defensive ability.

The biggest part of Crow-Armstrong's game that was a question mark was his offensive ability. The belief, when the Cubs acquired Crow-Armstrong in a trade with the New York Mets in 2021, was that if his offensive approach could develop, he would become a superstar prospect in Major League Baseball.

That has occurred.

Crow-Armstrong has had periods of time over the course of the past two seasons where he has dominated at each level with the organization. Most recently, with Triple-A Iowa, Crow-Armstrong slashed .271/.350/.479 in 158 plate appearances with a wRC+ of 105. Crow-Armstrong certainly has cooled off with the Iowa Cubs but appeared to be adjusting back as he went 7-for-10 this past weekend and has two grand slams over the course of the past week.

It goes without saying that Crow-Armstrong needs to get regular plate appearances. Crow-Armstrong is the organization's top prospect and the offense has cooled off since the start of the second half of the season. Crow-Armstrong's defense will bring value but his speed on the basepaths should create run opportunities.
