Chicago Cubs may be reaching the end of Patrick Wisdom experiment
The Patrick Wisdom experiment may be nearing its end for the Chicago Cubs. Wisdom was among the hottest hitters in all of Major League Baseball during the first month of the season but he has since returned to reality.
Since May 1, Wisdom is slashing .141/.248/.293 with a wRC+ of 51. It's not like Wisdom's power has been enough either during that same time period as he only has 4 home runs in his last 106 plate appearances with a .152 ISO. Wisdom got the start against a left-handed starting pitcher on Friday and struck out twice while also making two gaffes in left field.
With Nick Madrigal seemingly taking over at third base and Christopher Morel emerging as the designated hitter for the Cubs, Wisdom may soon find himself back with the Iowa Cubs. It's worth noting that Wisdom does have all three of his minor-league options remaining.
Justin Steele set to return to the Chicago Cubs starting rotation
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele is set to return to the rotation as he will make the start for the team against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon. Steele's return comes at an important time for the Cubs as they have won four consecutive games and enter play on Saturday only three games out of first place in the National League Central division.
With Javier Assad making an appearance in Friday's victory against the Orioles, expect Hayden Wesneski to be the corresponding roster move. Wesneski has allowed 8 earned runs (10 total) in 11.1 innings pitched since his return to the Major League level and it is likely that the Cubs want him to work on some adjustments with the Iowa Cubs.
