Chicago Cubs third baseman Nick Madrigal finding offensive success
When the Chicago Cubs demoted third baseman Nick Madrigal to Triple-A Iowa in May, there appeared to be miscommunication between the two sides. The Cubs wanted Madrigal to work on his offensive approach while Madrigal believed his offensive approach was hindered by his lack of consistent plate appearances.
Madrigal had immediate success with the Iowa Cubs and it wasn't long before he returned to the Major League level on June 9. Since returning on June 9, Madrigal has been the primary third baseman for the Cubs and has found offensive success.
Since June 9, Madrigal is slashing .289/.413/.368 with a 127 wRC+ and .359 wOBA. Madrigal is never going to have the power of a typical third baseman but it is hard to be upset with his production since returning to the Major League level.
Chicago Cubs first base prospect Matt Mervis update
There have been some questions in regard to the status of Chicago Cubs' first base prospect Matt Mervis. Mervis' last game with the Iowa Cubs was last Wednesday and there has been no news regarding a potential injury.
The Iowa Cubs were off on Monday and return to play on Tuesday. If Mervis is not in the lineup, then there will need to be an update provided by the team. Since his return to Triple-A after struggling at the Major League level, Mervis is slashing .313/.421/.375 with a 116 wRC+ in 19 plate appearances.
Chicago Cubs third base prospect BJ Murray Jr could be key piece to future
Along with Chicago Cubs' top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, Tennessee Smokies third baseman BJ Murray Jr will be participating in the 2023 MLB Futures Game. Murray has hit at each level of the Cubs' organization and that has been no different this season with Double-A Tennessee.
In 279 plate appearances this season, Murray is slashing .258/.376/.446 with a wRC+ of 126 and wOBA of .375. Murray has 9 home runs on the season and given his ability to play either of the corner infield positions, could be a prospect to keep an eye on in the coming seasons.
