Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Marcus Stroman expected back on Wednesday
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Marcus Stroman will throw a bullpen session on Sunday before the team concludes their series against the Toronto Blue Jays but the expectation is that Stroman will get the start on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox.
Stroman did express optimism over the status of his hip injury while speaking with reporters over the weekend.
Over the course of his last 7 starts, Stroman has struggled with a 9.00 ERA and the hope is the hip injury was the reason.
There is no doubt that the Cubs will need Stroman to return to form over the final month and a half of the season. The Cubs' starting pitching has been inconsistent since the start of the second half of the season and that will need to change if the team wants to make the post-season for the first time since 2020.
Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to dominate Triple-A pitching
Chicago Cubs top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to dominate Triple-A pitching after making adjustments from the Double-A level.
Crow-Armstrong is now slashing .257/.409/.486 with a wRC+ of 126. To emphasize how much Crow-Armstrong's first two games at Triple-A Iowa are weighing down his stats, the Cubs outfield prospect is slashing .324/.439/.676 with a 171 wRC+.
Seiya Suzuki continues to break out of second-half slump
Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki appears to be breaking out of the slump that he was in since the start of the second half of the season.
Suzuki has 5 hits over the course of his last 12 plate appearances to go along with a home run and no strikeouts. If Suzuki has indeed made the adjustments that the Cubs were hoping for, that would be a major development for the team's offense.
The development would allow for the Cubs to deploy their best offensive lineup with Suzuki in right field, Mike Tauchman in center field, Cody Bellinger at first base, and Jeimer Candelario at third base.
