Chicago Cubs News: Farm System considered among the best in baseball
The Chicago Cubs again have several players in the top 100 best prospects in baseball and their farm system now ranks third best in the league after the 2023 draft
One day after the Chicago Cubs fully signed all of their 2023 draft picks on the deadline for draftees to sign, Fangraphs now has the team's farm system ranked third in all of baseball.
Only the Pittsburgh Pirates ($308 million) and the Texas Rangers ($277 million) are valued higher than the Cubs' $259 million. The Pirates took former Louisiana State University phenom pitcher Paul Skenes with the first overall pick this year, which likely boosted their value significantly.
As for the Cubs, the team has 6 minor league players in the most recent version of Fangraphs' top 100 prospects list.

Crow-Armstrong has been the most nationally covered prospect in the Cubs' system and his arrival at the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs should be coming any day. Wicks and Brown are already in the Iowa Cubs' starting rotation waiting for their call-up to the big leagues while Triantos, Alcantara, and Horton are all currently on the High A South Bend Cubs climbing their way to a promotion.
The newest Cubs addition to the top 100 list could end up being their first round pick from the 2023 draft Matt Shaw. Shaw won Big Ten Player of the Year in 2023 after slashing .341/.445/.697 with 24 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases for the University of Maryland. Shaw also signed with the Cubs for full slot value at $4,848,500 after being taken 13th overall and he is expected to be a fast-riser through the Cubs system.
Hopefully, the Cubs can capitalize on all this talent coming through the system to compete in 2024. The power that comes with Shaw's bat would be very helpful for the contact-heavy Cubs.
