Chicago Cubs Minor League Recap: Pete Crow-Armstrong and Owen Caissie dominate

Shocking absolutely no one, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Owen Caissie have been ripping the cover off of AAA baseballs, but what's going on with the rest of the team?

Pitcher of the Week

Thomas Pannone

LHP

2 GS, 10.2 IP, 0.00 ERA, 4 H, 2 BB, 11 K

I certainly didn’t expect Thomas Pannone to be the first pitcher of the week for the 2024 season but here we are.

The 29-year-old journeyman was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 2012 draft but he chose to go to college and would eventually be drafted by Cleveland in the 2013 draft. He’s spent some time in the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays and he’s pitched in the KBO as well.

Whatever he’s doing differently so far this season to produce the results he’s gotten in his first two starts is obviously working for him. With Jameson Taillon and Justin Steele on the shelf for at least a little bit longer and Craig Counsell deploying the bullpen in a way that Cubs’ fans aren’t accustomed to seeing, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Pannone gets a spot start or two with the Major League squad.
