Chicago Cubs Minor League Recap: Kevin Alcantara is a single shy of the cycle

The Chicago Cubs hitting prospects were spectacular yesterday with Kevin Alcantara and Alexander Canario leading the way, but the pitching left much to be desired.

South Bend Cubs (A+) (50-65)

The South Bend Cubs lost to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 14-8

This team has a chance to turn things around when some of the 2023 draftees from Myrtle Beach get the call-up, but until then things continue to be rough. A 2-0 lead wouldn’t last as the Cubs found themselves down 9-3 by the end of the fourth inning and were never able to dig themselves out of that hole.

Kevin Alcantara (OF) went 3-for-5 and ended just a single shy of the cycle while adding five RBI and two runs scored.

Matt Shaw (SS) went 2-for-4 with two singles, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.

Parker Chavers (OF) went 3-for-4 with three singles. He doesn’t do much in terms of power but he is hitting .300 at South Bend this year.

Grant Kipp (RHP) gave up seven earned runs over three innings on five hits and three walks while striking out four.
