Chicago Cubs Minor League Recap: Kevin Alcantara is a single shy of the cycle

The Chicago Cubs hitting prospects were spectacular yesterday with Kevin Alcantara and Alexander Canario leading the way, but the pitching left much to be desired.

Tennessee Smokies (AA) (66-50)

The Tennessee Smokies lost to the Chattanooga Lookouts 18-0

Welp. There’s really not much to say about this one. The Smokies were down 4-0 by the end of the second inning and then the Lookouts decided to pile on seven runs in the sixth, four more in the seventh, and then another three in the eighth. The good thing with baseball is if the Smokies win by one run today both of those games are worth the same amount in the standings so let’s go get 'em.

Haydn McGeary (DH) went 0-for-1 but he added three walks.

Nelson Maldonado (DH) went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

Brandon Birdsell (RHP) lasted 3.2 innings and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.

Joe Nahas (RHP) came in for the next 1.2 innings and the wheels completely fell off as he gave up seven runs on six hits and two walks while only striking out one.
