Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A)

Myrtle Beach Pelicans beat the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 3-1

The Pelicans were a lot like the South Bend Cubs in this one in that they didn’t have much going on offense with only one player having a multi-hit game and only one more able to get on base twice by adding a walk, but they had solid pitching performances all around and got the job done.

Cristian Hernández (SS) went 1-3 with a single, a walk and a run scored.

Felix Stevens (OF) had a heck of a day. He went 2-3 with a home run, three RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.

Grant Kipp (RHP) started for the Pelicans in this one and went four scoreless innings. He only gave up two hits and a walk and struck out four.

The Pelicans then brought out three right-handed relievers to close the game out, having Jordan Holloway go 1.2 IP, Koen Moreno go 2.1 IP and Saul Gonzalez come in to close it out in the ninth. Combined the bullpen gave up two hits, and three walks and struck out five on their way to a good victory. Gonzalez continues to look like someone that has the makeup to be a legitimate threat if given the chance, and with the state of the Cubs bullpen, that chance may come sooner than most people think.
