Taking a look at the results from the Chicago Cubs Minor League affiliates on Tuesday, May 23.

Iowa Cubs (AAA)

Iowa Cubs beat the Nashville Sounds 4-1

Yesterday was a great day all around the system as the Iowa Cubs, Tennessee Smokies, South Bend Cubs, and Myrtle Beach Pelicans all came away with victories. Oh, and so did the Big League squad against the Mets. In Iowa we had a couple great pitching performances and a couple of home runs so let’s dive into the individual performances.

Darius Hill (OF) went 1-4 with a walk, two runs scored and his first home run of the season

Jake Slaughter (3B) went 1-4 with a walk, two RBI and his ninth homer so far this year.

Jared Young (1B) went 3-5 with three singles and a run scored, raising his batting average on the year to .271.

Yonathan Perlaza (OF) went 2-4 with a double and an RBI, continuing his impressive season so far as he raised his slash line to .289/.396/.478.

Brennan Davis (DH) went 1-3 with a single and drew a walk. He’s still not hitting for power and not much contact either, but it’s nice to see him get on base twice in a day.

Caleb Kilian (RHP) was solid today. He went five innings, only gave up one earned run on three hits, two walks, and struck out six. If you’re looking for more information on him turning it around check out Michael Bakebill’s latest article.

Then came the bullpen and they were all lights out. Brendon Little, Tyler Duffey, Bailey Horn, and Manuel Rodriguez all threw an inning a piece and combined to give up no earned runs on two hits, four walks, and six strikeouts. Little and Horn specifically look like usable pieces at the major league level if the bullpen continues to struggle in Chicago.
