The Chicago Cubs entered the 2023 season with the idea that the expectations at the Major League level were different than what they were in 2021 and 2022. The Cubs stressed in the offseason that the goal for the 2023 season was for the team to return to contention and their offseason activity backed it up with the signing of free agent shortstop Dansby Swanson to a seven-year deal being the biggest indicator.

The Cubs did not stop proving their intent with just their offseason moves. A few days before the start of the season, the team agreed to a three-year contract extension with Nico Hoerner. On Wednesday, the team agreed to a three-year contract extension with All-Star left fielder Ian Happ. Both extensions will take effect in 2024 and serves the opening of a window where the expectation will be for the team to contend.

Cubs fans were not afraid of sharing their excitement on twitter.
