Checking in on all things on the Chicago Cubs farm, several prospects are beginning to turn heads that have yet to garner much recognition otherwise. Of course, you have your names on the list that have stood out since last season, but the newcomers starting to break out further indicate how strong the Cubs farm system has grown in the previous two seasons. Without wasting time, let's look at five Chicago Cubs prospects that could be promoted soon.

5 Chicago Cubs prospects that could be promoted soon - 5. Brandon Birdsell

Starting with Brandon Birdsell, who was just drafted last year and had immediately begun his professional career with the High-A South Bend Cubs. Last year, for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Bridsell electrified with a 2.75 ERA across 15 starts and 85 innings pitched. To begin his 2023 campaign, Birdsell is already proving to be better than his competition, as evidenced by the success he has displayed thus far.

Through his first three starts in High-A, Birdsell has recorded a minuscule 0.84 ERA over his 10.2 frames, including 12 strikeouts. Given that he already turned 23 a little over a month ago and the fact that he skipped Low-A altogether, Birdsell looks to be on the fast track if he continues his success at this level. As other players get promoted, look for Birdsell to move up, as spots become vacated at Double-A Tennessee before long.
