3 lessons learned from Chicago Cubs last series against Miami Marlins - Caleb Kilian
2023 is an important season for Caleb Kilian after he saw his prospect status take a hit during the 2022 season. Kilian struggled in his three starts at the Major League level last season and those struggles followed him in his return to Triple-A Iowa to end the season.
Kilian entered the 2022 season as the Cubs' top pitching prospect but entering 2023, he barely made the Top 20. Kilian made the start on Saturday for the Cubs in place of an injured Jameson Taillon and the results were disappointing.
Kilian got tagged for 5 runs immediately in the first inning before ultimately giving up a total of 7 in 3.1 innings pitched while allowing 10 hits and 2 walks.
It still is entirely too early to deem Kilian's Major League Baseball future as over but it certainly is reasonable to theorize that his path to returning to Major Leagues may be as a middle reliever. Regardless, it has been a dramatic decline in potential for Kilian over the course of the past 12 months and it does not appear to be slowing anytime soon.
