3 Chicago Cubs top 30 prospects make Myrtle Beach roster
SS Christian Hernandez (Cubs #10)
Christian Hernandez was signed by the Cubs in January of 2021 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He was considered one of the top (if not the best) international prospect in 2020 and scouts compared his physical dimensions to Alex Rodriguez and Manny Machado. Over the past two seasons in Rookie ball, Hernandez has collected 315 at-bats with 8 home runs and 43 driven in.
At just 19-years-old, the young shortstop will get his first taste of single A action with Myrtle Beach this year. If he can continue to improve at the plate, he is projected to be a five-tool player as he runs well and has an above average throwing arm. Hopefully Hernandez can live up to his high expectations and take a big step forward in 2023 to get closer to the big leagues.
