The 2024 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is here as teams have until 5 pm CST on Tuesday evening to make deals. The Chicago Cubs did not wait until the deadline day to begin making moves as the team made a pair of deals over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Cubs sent a pair of prospects to the Toronto Blue Jays for relief pitcher and former top prospect, Nate Pearson. The Cubs followed up their addition of Pearson with another move on Sunday that seemed to be an eye on future seasons. In their deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, the Cubs acquired All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes in exchange for Christopher Morel and a pair of pitching prospects.

It would seem that any moves that the Cubs make on Tuesday will be more geared towars moving players off of their Major League roster given the seller's market this deadline is proving to be and the plethora of pitchers who the Cubs could move.

Jameson Taillon Trade Rumors

There was some surprise that Cubs' veteran starting pitcher Jameson Taillon made his scheduled start against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. Taillon has been an oft-rumored name in trade talks over the past month with the trend over the past week suggesting he would be moved ahead of the deadline.

While Taillon struggled in his start against the Reds, that start alone likely wouldn't deter an interested team from pulling the trigger on a deal. While Taillon making the start on Monday likely indicated no deal was close, there remans a chance he could be moved ahead of the deadline according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Subscription Required).

Blake Snell staying put?

After the Cubs made the deal for Paredes on Sunday, a rumor emerged that they were among the teams to check on the availability of Blake Snell of the San Francisco Giants.

While the Cubs' rumored interest in Snell still does not add up, it would seem that the latest is that Snell will be remaining with the Giants.

Chicago Cubs trade Mark Leiter Jr. to the New York Yankees

We have our first Cubs' trade of deadline day as the team has sent relief pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. to the New York Yankees for infielder Ben Cowles and right-handed relief pitcher Jack Neely.

Both Neely and Cowles were in the back half of MLB Pipeline's Top 30 ranking of the New York Yankees' farm system. Of the two, Neely likely has the highest ceiling, with many Yankees' fans thinking he was deserving of a promotion to the Major League level for the final two months of the season as New York looked for bullpen reinforcements.
