Among the biggest needs that the Chicago Cubs have as an organization are power pitching and power hitting.

Over the course of the past 12 months, the Cubs have begun to see the fruits of their labor pay off in terms of the pitching prospects that they have compiled in recent seasons. Jordan Wicks and Ben Brown, their injuries not withstanding, haver seemed to cement themselves as long-term fixtures in the team's starting rotation with Cade Horton considered to be the team's best overall prospect.

We have yet to see the position prospects arrive at the Major League level and find success. While Pete Crow-Armstrong has quickly emerged as one of the best defensive center fielders in Major League Baseball, his offensive skills are still considered a work in progress.

Where Crow-Armstrong's offensive profile falls short is in the power department but the team is hopeful that Owen Caissie and Matt Shaw will make up for the pop that Crow-Armstrong does not have. Still, with the 2024 MLB Draft beginning on Sunday, it would be in the Cubs' interest to add another power bat to the organization.

The Cubs find a new power source in the latest 2024 MLB Mock Draft.

In FanSided's final 2024 MLB Mock Draft, Roger Castillo mocks Florida State outfielder James Tibbs III as the selection for the Cubs at No. 14.

Tibbs has quite the college resume. This season, the left-handed hitting Tibbs hit 28 home runs, drove in 95 and was named first-team Academic All-American. Oh, in the Cape Cod League, he left quite a legacy, where he was a Cape Cod League All Star and also took home the 2023 Home Run Derby championship.

Tibbs can play first and is projected to play a corner outfield position.

The only thing that may not work in Tibbs' favor in terms of being the potential selection of the Cub is the fact that he projects as either a first baseman or corner outfielder. Those are three spots that the Cubs are set at for the long-term though if the organization is a fan of Tibbs' power, you select him and worry about the positional fit down the road.
