After an Opening Day victory against the Milwaukee Brewers last Thursday, the Chicago Cubs dropped their final two games of the Opening Series against the Brewers on Saturday and Sunday. The opening series of the Major League Baseball regular season is always the one that gets the most overreaction as fans are watching the first baseball games of consequence since last October.

Despite the 1-2 start to the season for the Cubs, there are several players that have gotten off to impressive starts beginning with none other than new shortstop Dansby Swanson.

Cubs have fans have grown accustomed to prized free-agent signings struggling in their first appearances with the team. The likes of starting pitchers Jon Lester and Yu Darvish, and outfielder Jason Heyward all gotten off to slow starts in their respective careers with the Cubs.

That was no the case for Swanson. Swanson was terrific in the Cubs' Opening Series against the Brewers as he collected 7 hits in 13 plate appearances while already reaffirming his place as the best defensive shortstop in the National League.

2 Chicago Cubs players up after the Opening Series - Patrick Wisdom

For all the talk this offseason that the Cubs lack power in their lineup, Patrick Wisdom has been slept on. Wisdom eclipsed the 25-home run plateau in each of the past two seasons and wasted little time getting started in 2023. Wisdom had two home runs in the Cubs' loss to the Brewers on Wisdom.

The power is a constant for Wisdom. If Wisdom can limit the strikeout this season and improve his fielding at third base, he could unlock his true potential this season.
