One of the Cubs' most impressive 2025 wins featured in new Hollywood blockbuster

It's hard to forget the Cubs' epic 13-11 victory against the Diamondbacks back on April 18 - a game in which the Cubs were ahead 7-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning, then trailed 11-7 going to the bottom of the inning, only to rally for six runs. Some said it was a Hollywood-like game...well, now that game has actually made it to Hollywood.

Footage of this game became a plot point in Rain Johnson's latest Knives Out installment, Wake Up Dead Man (2025).

Without giving too much away, one of the side characters taped this game during a Good Friday service when the murder took place. The footage of the game proved crucial in cracking the case due to the timing of the game and the murder. It makes sense to feature the Cubs as a Good Friday 1:20 local afternoon baseball game, considering other games on Friday are usually in the evenings. What makes this particularly noteworthy is that the game actually took place on Good Friday in real life.

Huge Cubs win featured in 'Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man' movie

The game footage in the movie clearly shows close-up shots of Nico Hoerner and Kyle Tucker at the plate. These were earlier in the game, before the eighth inning, facing Corbin Burnes. A close-up of Tucker coming to the plate was his first AB of the game in the first inning. Close-up shots of Hoerner were side angles of him taking an AB. Other shots of in-game action were mixed in while the footage was playing in the background or shown up close.

Worth noting that there is commentator audio that can be heard in the movie, but it is not that of Boog or JD, nor the Diamondbacks broadcast. It's actually the voice of award-winning actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing the commentary. Also worth noting that no Marquee graphics or score bugs are visible in the footage.

Not sure if Hoerner, Tucker, Burnes, or any others get any royalties, but it has to be pretty cool regardless to be featured in what has become a very popular dark comedy murder mystery film series.
