It hasn't exactly been a fast-paced week with the MLB trade deadline on Thursday, and that is starting to become the trend. The fact that the Chicago Cubs haven't made a move yet isn't a complete surprise, and that is the case for most contenders across Major League Baseball. Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden seems desperate for some trades to start happening, as he provided yet another trade deadline intel drop for The Athletic, but it reads as if he is bored and wants to provide more confirmation of why he is out of baseball.

Bowden does offer 10 predictions ahead of the deadline, and one of the first moves he forecasts is Eugenio Suárez landing with the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds, along with nearly every contender, have been mentioned as a suitor for Suárez, and Bowden seems to be playing up the idea that the move would see the All-Star third baseman return to Cincinnati. Just this morning, however, Jeff Passan seemed to speculate that the Cubs and Mariners were the clear favorites for Suárez.

It's hard to point to the Reds as being the aggressive suitor for Suárez--especially when the two teams ahead of them in the National League Central, the Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers, are also interested. Not to mention, the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros also have interest from the American League.

MLB insider shoots down Cubs-Suárez buzz but hints at massive arm

While Bowden does not have the Cubs adding Suárez at the deadline, he does have the North Siders landing Edward Cabrera for their starting rotation.

In recent days, it has felt as if Cabrera was the Cubs' top pitching target ahead of the deadline, with the Miami Marlins calling their bluff and starting him on Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cabrera registered a quality start, tossing 6 innings while giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4.

Cabrera certainly is near the front of the line when it comes to potential additions to the Cubs' starting rotation, but it remains a steep asking price from the Marlins. Of course, if they aren't adding Suárez, the Cubs would be more than capable of meeting that ask.
