Kyle Hendricks: July 24th, 2020
The 2020 season on its own was a unique one, truncating the schedule to just 60 games and delaying the start until the end of July. But make no mistake, the Cubs, specifically Kyle Hendricks, came ready to play and put on an unforgettable performance for the fans at home starved for baseball.
In a 3-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Professor tossed a complete shutout and nearly notched a Maddux, allowing only three hits and no walks on 103 pitches. Oddly enough, all three hits came off the bat of Orlando Arcia.
He also punched out nine members of the Brew Crew. The Cubs won the game 3-0 behind long balls hit by Ian Happ and Anthony Rizzo.
Ian Happ: March 29th, 2018
Speaking of Ian Happ, the Cubs opened the 2018 campaign in Miami, fresh off a disappointing end to the 2017 season losing four games to one to the Dodgers in their return to the NLCS.
Still morning in Chicago, Ian Happ lined the first pitch of the first game of the season into the right field stands off José Ureña, bringing belief that the Cubs were looking for another magical year.
Additional home runs from Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber sealed the 8-4 victory.
