While Chicago Cubs fans are waiting on Matt Shaw's return to the Major League level, Tuesday night's game against the Miami Marlins will likely serve as the Major League debut for another highly anticipated Cubs prospect.

In a move that was first reported on Monday night, the Cubs are promoting Moises Ballesteros to the Major League level. Now, on the other end of the move, Ian Happ is being placed on the IL with an oblique strain. The hope is that Happ's stay on the IL will be minimal.

Ballesteros is the fourth-ranked prospect in the Cubs' farm system, and No. 61 in all of Major League Baseball. Ballesteros opened the season with the Iowa Cubs, where there was no question that his bat was ready for the Major League level. There was a question of fit as given Miguel Amaya and Carson Kelly having success as the catching tandem at the Major League level to open the season, and Seiya Suzuki serving as the designated hitter, there wasn't a path to consistent plate appearances for the Cubs' top catching prospect.

With Suzuki likely taking left field in Happ's absence, Ballesteros should get an initial run as the team's designated hitter. Many talent evaluators believe that Ballesteros' bat will play immediately at the Major League level. In 150 plate appearances with the Iowa Cubs this season, Ballesteros is slashing .368/.420/.522/150wRC+.

Ballesteros' promotion will remind many Cubs fans of the ascension of Kyle Schwarber. When Schwarber made his debut with the Cubs in 2015, he was a catcher who had a bat that forced his way onto the Major League level. As with Schwarber, it seems likely that Ballesteros won't be playing much catcher during his initial run with the Cubs. Of course, Schwarber shifted rather quickly to the outfield. For Ballesteros, as of now, most of his plate appearances will likely come as the Cubs' designated hitter.

The Cubs will also need to make a corresponding move on their 40-man roster to add Ballesteros. Justin Turner, Vidal Bruján, and Tyson Miller are the candidates that stick out the most. However, it seems that the Cubs, given Turner's presence in the clubhouse, will likely want to give him some more time to find his offensive approach. Having said that, his struggles this season is likely one of the reasons Ballesteros was the move to take Happ's spot on the 26-man roster.

Tyson Miller is on a minor-league rehab assignment, but the Cubs are nearing decision time, as there are three days remaining on his assignment. Otherwise, it feels inevitable that Bruján will eventually be designated for assignment.
