Latest Garrett Crochet trade rumor is great news for the Chicago Cubs
It's been fun sport for Chicago baseball fans to speculate on hypothetical trade scenarios between the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.
Once a foreign concept, the Cubs and White Sox have proved over the past decade that they aren't afraid of doing business with one another. Entering the offseason, the White Sox remain in a position where they are selling while the Cubs figure to use the trade market as the primary avenue to improve their roster.
Starting pitching is the focus of the Cubs' offseason. The White Sox hold the rights to the best available starting pitcher on the trade market. After holding onto starting pitcher Garrett Crochet at the Trade Deadline last season, the White Sox are expected to move Crochet at some point during this offseason.
While teams have already checked in on Crochet's availability, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score and Marquee Sports Network added clarity to his market.
The White Sox are still in the infancy stage of their rebuild. While the White Sox have been successful at acquiring a plethora of intriguing pitching prospects, they have yet to address the position player side of their rebuild. If the White Sox are targeting position player prospects in a potential trade of Crochet, this, in theory, would make the Cubs a great fit.
Position players dominate the top of the Cubs' prospects rankings. Even more than that, this offseason figures to be the winter way the Cubs trade from the top of their farm system in order to address needs on their Major League roster. That's one of the reasons why Owen Caissie has already been a popular name in trade talks.
If the Cubs are going to trade a prospect like Caissie, it would need to be for an impact talent. Crochet checks that box as it would provide the Cubs with another ace of their rotation to go next to Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga.
