All eyes may be on the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday as the two teams are set to play in the Super Bowl tonight but for the Chicago Cubs, Sunday served as report day for pitchers and catchers.

One of the biggest questions the Cubs faced entering Spring Training was the health of Ben Brown. Brown saw his rookie season end prematurely as his last appearance was a start against the Cincinnati Reds on June 8. After that appearance, Brown was diagnosed with a neck injury that the team struggled to find clarity on.

While speaking with reporters at the Cubs Convention last month, Brown appeared to be ready to go for the 2025 season.

One of the first updates the Cubs provided on Sunday was an update on Brown. Brown told reporters that he is ready and 100% ready for the season.

Brown's status for Spring Training was among the more important storylines for the Cubs this season. With Brown reporting healthy and ready to go, the next question will be his expected role on the Cubs' pitching staff this season.

While it seems to be a near certainty that Brown will make a handful of starts for the Cubs at some point this season, it would seem that he is destined to open the season in the bullpen.

The offseason saw the Cubs bolster their bullpen two key additions of Ryan Pressly and Ryan Brasier. Pressly, Brasier, and Porter Hodge will likely be the primary high-leverage relief pitchers for the Cubs out of the bullpen to open the season. For Brown, he may have the best stuff of anyone on the Cubs' pitching staff. That could see him ascend toward a high-leverage role in the bullpen. Or, more likely, the Cubs may view Brown as a bullpen ace who can pitch multiple innings at a time.
