The slump of Kyle Tucker has been one of the main topics of conversation for the Chicago Cubs since the start of July, and while there were signs over the weekend that Tucker was ready to break out and return to form, Sunday was an ugly scene at Wrigley Field.
Tucker went hitless in 4 plate appearances during the Cubs' 4-3 win over the Pirates. In the sixth inning of Sunday's contest, Tucker hit a ground ball to the Pirates' first baseman Spencer Horwitz. Short of Horwitz not fielding the ball cleanly, it was clear that Tucker was going to be out. That said, many still took notice of the fact that Tucker didn't even attempt to run toward first base. Instead, Tucker looked on from the batter's box.
Fans in attendance at Wrigley Field weren't shy about letting their frustrations with Tucker be known.

Yes, that is Tucker getting paraded with boos as it seems that his slump has hit rock bottom. Now, when a player as important as Tucker is going through a slump, everything they do is going to get micro-analyzed. That being said, over the last few weeks, Tucker has shown visible signs of frustration that are far from the norm when it comes to how he conducts himself on the field.
Cubs fans unleash boos on Kyle Tucker as slump gets even uglier
There is no question that if the Cubs' season is going to get back on track, it is going to start with Tucker returning to his superstar form. If that doesn't happen, then there's no path to where the Cubs will have a lengthy postseason run in October. That said, there is also no question that Tucker, in his current form, looks broken.
Tucker's broken persona in recent games makes it even more frustrating that Owen Caissie only has one start since being promoted from Triple-A Iowa last week. With the Cubs playing five games against the Milwaukee Brewers over the next four days, now may be the time for the Cubs to give Tucker a day off or two.
