Although it fell short of the lofty expectations Chicago Cubs fans had for Jed Hoyer and the North Siders, this week's trade deadline was pure chaos. It seems like when that's the case, there's always a handful of former Cubs who factor into the deals and this year was no different.
We're not talking about the minor leaguers the Cubs traded to bring in Michael Soroka, Willi Castro, Andrew Kittredge and Taylor Rogers. Instead, we're focusing on guys who had a previous stint in the organization - and wound up traded ahead of Thursday's 5p CT deadline.

Andrew Chafin heads west as the Angels inexplicably choose to buy
To this day, Andrew Chafin remains beloved in Wrigleyville thanks to his reputation as a salt-of-the-earth everyday guy with a glorious mustache, unmistakable flow and a strong body of work during his stint with the Cubs.
The Angels are the 35-year-old's eighth team as his journeyman adventure continues. This year with the Nationals, the southpaw has pitched to a 2.70 ERA in 26 appearances and Los Angeles hopes he'll bring that level of consistency and effectiveness to its bullpen. Angels relievers rank 27th in the league with a ghastly 5.06 ERA this year.
If they're going to leapfrog their division foes in the AL West, or even get back into the wild card picture, that has to change. Can Chafin replicate the 2.13 ERA he posted over parts of two seasons with the Cubs? That's the hope if you're Angels' GM Perry Minasian
Shelby Miller joins the Brewers ahead of a pivotal five-game series
Shelby Miller got a cup of coffee with the Cubs back in 2021, making three appearances and getting rocked for seven earned runs in just two innings of work. Since then, he's pitched for the Pirates, Giants, Dodgers, Tigers and, most recently, the Diamondbacks. Although he hasn't pitched since early July due to a right flexor tendon strain, Miller could end up being a major weapon for the Brewers down the stretch.
This year, the former Cardinals farmhand and Rookie of the Year finalist has been lights-out for Arizona, working to a 1.98 ERA and 0.963 WHIP in 36 1/3 innings of work. If he can return ahead of the Cubs and Brewers' potentially division-deciding five-game series at Wrigley this month, he could play spoiler in a big way against one of his former clubs.
