The Chicago Cubs have a lot to prove in this home series against the Yankees. With the trade deadline in just a matter of days, the Cubs have to continue to convince the powers that be that this roster is worth of giving real reinforcement. Chicago has a firm grip on a Wild Card spot at the moment, but making a statement against New York could convince Jed Hoyer and Co. to be even more aggressive than they already are. However, Mother Nature may have her own say on the matter on Friday.

The forecast for Friday's match-up between Shota Imanaga and Will Warren was dicey from the get-go. The hope was that a weather window would reveal itself around the official game start time and the two teams would be able to sneak this game in. That could still happen, but the weather doesn't look ideal.

Cubs vs. Yankees Weather Update, 7/31/26: When will the game start?

So, there is a real chance that the forecast actually gets worse and this game gets ends up getting postponed altogether. However, at the moment, it does seem as though the forecast for rain improves as we get into Friday evening. That could mean that we are in store for a pretty lengthy rain delay at some point, but you can imagine that both teams are going to be motivated to try and get this game in and avoid any doubleheader/rescheduling nonsense.

We will keep this post updated as more information on any delay is made available by officials, including any new announced game start times. You may want to get comfortable and get caught up on all of the Cubs trade deadline rumors floating around at the moment, because we could be waiting a while if this forecast is anywhere close to correct.
